HOLLYWOOD—At long last, the box-office has officially gotten a taste of summer since the release of “Avengers: Endgame.” Yes, I will be the first to admit that summer 2019, has been dreadful when it comes to receipts for the box-office. Big summer tent poles and sequels have been busts for movie lovers, but that all changed this weekend with the release of the sequel “Toy Story 4” with a solid $118 million.

Many predicted the animated feature to clock in over $150 million plus at the box-office. The film surpassed its predecessor which brought in $110 million during its opening weekend in 2010. Debuting in second place was the remake of 1988 classic, “Child’s Play” with $14.1 million. Hmm, not bad for a horror remake, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t expect higher numbers for the movie. Staying comfortable in third place was “Aladdin” with $12.2 million. After more than a month in theaters, the live-action movie has grossed over $287 million.

Last week’s champ, “Men in Black: International” dropped to fourth place with $10.8 million. The sequel has crossed the $50 million mark at the domestic box-office. However, that is a far cry from other films in the franchise. Rounding out the top five was the sequel “The Secret Life of Pets 2” with $10.3 million. The animated feature has since crossed the $100 million mark. Not faring well at the box-office was the action-thriller “Anna” which didn’t even crack the top 10 with $3.5 million.

This weekend sees the release of the musical comedy “Yesterday,” and horror returns yet again in a creepy little doll with “Annabelle Comes Home.” Hmm, I sense we could see a battle between “Toy Story 4” and “Annabelle Comes Home;” it should be fun.
