BEVERLY HILLS—This week in Hollywoodland, Warner Bros. Studios named my friend, British actor Henry Cavill as the new “Superman” hero to hit the screen in 2012. Charlie Sheen’s in bigger trouble than is being reported and lots of Hollywood leading ladies are headed to court.

Congratulations to handsome “The Tudors” star Henry Cavill for being cast in the upcoming “Superman” film as the superhero himself. The talented British star portrayed the Duke of Suffolk on the long running monarch drama on Showtime. Though branded an unknown by Hollywood critics, the star has a huge following and he’s the best choice in my opinion for the role.

With the sleeper hit “The Walking Dead” making such a huge impact on viewers and the AMC network last year, WB is excited to announce that the Stephen King novel “The Stand” will be headed to the silver screen. Mosaic and Roy Lee are producing the project. The companies will co-develop and co-produce the feature film, with CBS having the option to participate in co-financing. Warners will handle worldwide marketing and distribution. CBS was also involved with the release of the new hit film “The Mechanic.”

The classic novel was released in 1978. “The Stand” is a story of good vs. evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. Between “The Stand” and the upcoming popular “Superman” movie with Henry Cavill, WB’s financial future is looking a lot brighter than it was just a few years ago, and back to where it stood when it was founded by Jack Warner and his brothers in 1918.

A Venice jeweler reported to the LAPD that Lindsay Lohan allegedly swiped an expensive necklace from their store, only to be returned just before a search was conducted of the star’s new condo. The LAPD says that they have turned over the file to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. Halle Berry bailed on an upcoming film in order to file for full custody of her daughter, which she had with former boyfriend and supermodel Gabriel Aubry. Just months ago the two were working on a joint custody agreement, now he’s telling friends that he has audio tapes similar to the ones Mel Gibson’s ex made of him ranting and raving, and Halle’s telling her friends that Gabriel allegedly used the “N” word during arguments. The two cases are bound to heat up in wintry February and may even eclipse the February sweeps period on the TV networks.

When it comes to Charlie Sheen, everyone is talking about the actor at this point. However, his fate could be out of his hands in the near future. Until now, the actor’s behavior has been fodder for tabloids and late night TV comics. Recently, an insider with CBS pointed out to me that up to $250 million in domestic syndication deals, as well as millions more in ad revenues are in jeopardy as Sheen heads back to rehab. CBS officially has tried to downplay the loss, stating that their network is not in jeopardy with the delays of filming one television show. Though Sheen had better find himself cleaned up and back to work sooner rather than later because accountants are busier at CBS these days than editors in the cutting rooms.

Kate Linder, who portrays Esther Valentine on CBS’s “The Young and the Restless,” will be speaking on Wednesday, February 9, at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Academy Conference Center, 5210 Lankershim Blvd. (at Magnolia) in North Hollywood. Kate tells me that she’s very excited to be an invited guest speaker. Kate is also the national spokesperson for the National ALS Association. The PIRATES event is called “How Hollywood and Celebrities Can Be A Force For Good.” With the heart of the entertainment industry in our own backyard, there are tremendous opportunities for nonprofits to tap into this powerful resource. Writer, producer and director Hilliard Guess will be presenting a special screening of his short film “Troublesome” starring “Dynasty” star Gordon Thomson and Kareem Grimes. The film, which I reviewed last year, is incredible. It’s filled with action and a surprising ending, and although it only lasts eight minutes, it is one of the most exciting films I have seen. The film’s screening is part of the 2011 Hollywood Shorts, and is presented in honor of the 4th Annual African-American Shorts at the Egyptian Theatre, 6712 Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood on Saturday, February 12, at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at Fandango.com and Hollywoodshorts.com.

Author and motivational speaker, Dr. Nathaniel J. Williams, will visit troops this February and in March as part of an Armed Forces Entertainment tour in celebration of Black History Month. Dr. Williams is scheduled to visit several undisclosed locations in England, Kosovo, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Italy to conduct seminars, sign autographs, pose for photos and, most importantly, to extend his gratitude to America’s troops. You can learn more about this positive role model in the African-American community and our nation at drnatwilliams.com.

Have a great week, and see you next week! XOXO
