LOS FELIZ—An apartment caught on fire on January 8 at 1744 N. Winona Blvd. The LAFD was able to confine the fire to just the one apartment unit, but three pets were found dead at the scene.

LAFD announced at 2:09 p.m. that a 2-story garden style apartment caught on fire on the second floor of the unit.

It took 45 firefighters to put out the difficult flames in 25 minutes. The LAFD described the apartment as having excessive personal storage, in addition to having an attic. No human injury was reported aside from the three animals, described as 1 dog and 2 cats. Neighbors informed firefighters of the pets as the resident owner was not home at the time of the fire.

The 8381 square foot, 12 unit apartment was built in 1950 and had no optional fire sprinklers inside. Firefighters made sure to go through all storage to ensure the fire was out. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
