MALIBU—On Wednesday, June 17, the Point Mugu State Park experienced King Tide flooding at their Thornhill Broome Campground in the morning. A temporary closure notice was posted on the California State Parks website, with an estimated closure from June 17 thru June 18, with a tentative reopening date of Friday, June 19.

According to CBS News, the flooding took place at the campground at midnight. No campers were trapped by the flooding, and Caltrans and the Ventura County Fire Department were notified.

Thornhill Broome Campground is located between the Pacific Coast Highway and the Pacific Ocean, which is an area recently put under flood advisory warnings and hazardous beach conditions by the city of Malibu. In footage captured on the Spectrum News 1 Instagram, Thornhill Broome Campground experienced minor flooding with low water levels reaching campgoers’ cars and campers.

As coastal conditions continue, the city of Malibu advises beachgoers and campers to stay alert of dangerous rip currents with on-going ocean conditions, and to watch for low-lying coastal areas subjected to flooding; such as beaches, parking lots, walkways, and beach access points.
