SANTA MONICA—Sunday, June 21, marks Make Music Day, where the city of Santa Monica joins over 800 cities to celebrate music on the summer solstice. Led by the City’s Recreation and Arts Department since 2012, Make Music Day is a free annual celebration consisting of free events for all ages.
Santa Monica is hosting five family-friendly events, participating in music-making and workshops inspired by various themes, including the World Cup and Route 66. Musicians, venues, businesses, event producers, and lovers of music are all welcome to celebrate and showcase local music.
One of the city’s events, “Music Meets the World Cup,” is being held at the Downtown Santa Monica Metro Station and Kiss & Ride parking lot from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Neighborhood-associated events include a beachside concert from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Beach South Lot 1, a concert at Colorado Center Park from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and a concert at the Palisades Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The event, “RAD Play Day and Frequencies in Bloom,” will be held at Miles Memorial Playhouse and Reed Park from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event features an open-air concert highlighting women, trans, and non-binary musicians.
