MALIBU—On Sunday, July 19, Heal the Bay will come to the Point Dume Tidepools, located at the Point Dume State Beach at 6800 Westward Beach Road from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for a free community volunteer-based science event.

Heal the Bay notes that this event is a Bioblitz, which, according to the National Geographic website, is recognized as a community-based event that focuses on identifying the surrounding areas’ diverse species within a short time period. The goal for Bioblitzing is to achieve a log, inventory, and overall count of the flora and fauna in the area.

Participants at the event will use the iNaturalist App to photograph and document the marine life living in the Point Dume Tidepools which helps Heal the Bay collect valuable data that assists scientists understanding of the Tidepools ecosystem.
