HOLLYWOOD—I have been hearing so much buzz about perhaps the most anticipated flick of the year, perhaps the past 5 years if we’re being honest. I’m referring to the release of the trailer on Monday, July 20 for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Yes, I know most of you are thinking, wasn’t “The Avengers” over with “Endgame” that witnessed a ton of our favorite superheroes meet their maker at the hands of Thanos. Well, this is Hollywood people and there is always more story to tell.
This one might be even bigger than that movie as we see a world collide that hasn’t ever as iconic Marvel characters owned by Disney/Fox, the X-Men and Fantastic Four enter the realm. Yes, Professor X, Cyclops, Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm, The Thing and Johnny Storm are aligning with the remaining Avengers to stop a new threat, a big ass threat in: Dr. Doom (Robert Downey Jr.).
Dr. Doom was one of my favorite villains as a kid in the superhero universe. Mysterious, beyond powerful and he had one of the greatest costumes. My problem is that the previous “Fantastic Four” movies didn’t come close to bringing the villainy to that character as needed. Christopher Nolan did it best with “The Dark Knight” do not be afraid to dive into a realm of darkness and drama in the comic book universe because you create an antagonist for our protagonist that is indeed a threat.
The trailer is shrouded with darkness. However, a vast majority is a voice over from Thor (Chris Hemsworth), assembling some of the most iconic superheroes of all time, as they get ready to tackle a battle that is bigger than Thanos himself. We have characters from “Black Panther,” numerous X-Men characters like Gambit, Mystique, Professor X, Cyclops, and Magneto, and members of The Fantastic Four. Nothing is more incredible than seeing Thor think his hammer can stop Dr. Doom who stops him in his tracks, before that stunning revelation that Captain America (Chris Evans) is back in the flesh, but didn’t he die?
“Avengers: Doomsday” hits theaters the week before Christmas on December 18, 2026. I can tell you people are going to be lined up for this one.
