LOS FELIZ—On Thursday, August 20, a water main burst in a Los Feliz neighborhood around 11 p.m. The incident was reported at 2141 W. Commonwealth Avenue, near Los Feliz Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The LADWP shut off the line after about 45 minutes of it being ruptured.
The 6-inch pipe rupture caused the streets of nearby neighborhoods to flood with water. The flooding left the street buckled, leaving sudden bumps throughout the pavement. The water main rupture inundated several outdoor dining areas along the 2000 block of Hillhurst Avenue, according to video from RMG News.
Crews responded promptly to the situation and worked overnight to remove and replace the damaged part of the line. The water main was back in service by Friday, August 21, with backfilling operations underway, as reported by a LADWP spokeswoman.
There has been no immediate word on what caused it to rupture. In July, a massive trunk line ruptured on Sunset Boulevard, which sent about 17 million gallons of water coursing through the streets of West Hollywood, leading to a sinkhole and flooding. The repairs took several days to complete.
