STUDIO CITY—An abandoned property that was set ablaze is concerning neighbors on Babcock Avenue in Studio City, which prompted a visit from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bas. Bass visited the property and spoke with neighbors about the property.
“This is something that should have absolutely never happened,” Bass stated during a press conference.
The fire broke out on Friday, August 28 at 3:30 a.m. No cause for the fire has been disclosed to the public.
The neighborhood has been vocal about issues with the property over recent years, noting in 2021 illegal dumping, vermin and hazardous conditions at the site. Councilmember Nithya Raman district includes the neighborhood. A metal fence was placed around the property Friday.
A family came out and said because people will jump through their backyard they added barbed wire on their fence.
Raman indicated Mayor Bass was notified about the property nearly a year ago back in November. “It is absolutely inexcusable that residents on Babcock Avenue have been living next to this abandoned, unsecured property for years,” Raman indicated in a statement to KTLA 5 News.
Raman is competing with Bass in the upcoming election on November 3 to become the next Mayor of Los Angeles.
