SANTA MONICA—A home caught fire in its attic on Thursday, February 27 the Santa Monica Fire Department announced. 

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the SMFD responded to smoke coming from the roof of a home located at 305 Alta Avenue. An aggressive attack on the fire commenced, but required additional assistance. With additional resources, the flames were controlled in 33 minutes.

In total, the SMFD assigned six engine companies and a truck company to combat the fire, along with the Los Angeles City Fire Department, who provided one engine and one truck to assist as well. Despite the quick response to the fire, a significant amount of overhaul to completely extinguish the fire was required. Firefighters were also able to salvage a significant amount, limiting the amount of water damage to the contents of the residence.

Two Fire Chief Offices from Santa Monica and one Battalion Chief from Los Angeles assisted with the management of the scene. In addition, the Santa Monica Police Department provided scene pictures from a drone. Santa Monica Fire Prevention is conducting an investigation as to the exact cause of the blaze.
