LOS ANGELES—Defensive Tackle Aaron Donald has officially come out of retirement to join his former team the Los Angeles Rams. Donald signed a one-year deal worth $20 million on August 30.
Rumors spread about Donald’s return in the past, most notably after the Los Angeles Rams received Myles Garrett through a trade with the Cleveland Browns in June. The Rams received Defensive End Myles Garrett, while the Browns received Defensive End Jared Verse, a 2027 1st-Round Pick, a 2028 2nd-Round Pick and a 2029 3rd-Round Pick.
Donald retired from the NFL while still putting up great numbers at 32 years old. During the 2023 season, Donald had 8 sacks, 53 total tackles, and 16 tackles for loss.
He earned his tenth consecutive pro bowl selection and a First-Team All-Pro.
In July, Donald was doing conditioning workouts with the Rams signaling a potential return to the team. On August 5, the player had his first official workout with the team and was listed as a tryout.
Rams Head coach Sean McVay jokingly responded to the NFL reporting Donald’s tryout. “The best tryout that the Rams have ever seen,” McVay said during a press conference.
The Rams have championship aspirations with the additions of Aaron Donald, Trent McDuffie, and Myles Garrett. They plan to hit the ground running against the 49ers in Australia September 10.
