BOYLE HEIGHTS—On Wednesday, June 17, a structure fire broke out at 1400 S. Los Palos St., causing street closures as firefighters from multiple Los Angeles Fire Department stations throughout the city responded to the scene of the fire at Lineage’s Los Palos Port Centric Facility, a 491,000 square foot warehouse with high volume inventory and cold storage.

Reports indicate that the fire started on the roof. Some of the roof collapsed. A foul smell and poor air quality started evacuation efforts.
In a June 21 press release, LAFD officials recommended that anyone with chronic or significant breathing issues like asthma or COPD, and those who are sensitive to smoke, stay indoors and seek medical attention if necessary.

Firefighters are navigating steel walls and 85 million pounds of what LAFD authorities referred to as frozen animal by-products. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass spoke at a press conference and told the Los Angeles County citizens that she was out knocking on doors, checking on “her people.”
As the warehouse burned in Boyle Heights, Mayor Bass traveled to and from Chicago, IL., for a special event.
According to the Obama Foundation Highlights, on Thursday, June 18, Mayor Bass was present at the opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, Illinois. “The star-studded dedication ceremony for invited dignitaries occurred that Thursday, and the campus officially opened to the public on Friday, June 19, 2026.”— The Obama Foundation
On Saturday, June 20, California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a State of Emergency.
“California is mobilizing to support Los Angeles as firefighters and emergency personnel continue their work to contain this fire and protect surrounding communities. While local officials continue to lead this response, the State of California is prepared to help safeguard public health, support emergency operations, and assist impacted residents. We are coordinating closely with our local partners, deploying specialized expertise, and pre-positioning critical supplies so communities have the support they need both now and throughout recovery.”— Governor Gavin Newsom

According to Governor Newsom’s webpage, he has declared a State of Emergency at least 70 times since he took office. The press releases are listed in the first 10 pages of his website. Newsom established the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) to oversee and ensure California has the “support necessary to respond to the incident(s).”
Reports indicate that on June 18th and 19th, Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, were also in attendance for the opening of the Obama Center in Chicago, Illinois.
