HOLLYWOOD—This week soap fans get a double dose of juicy shenanigans in the world of daytime drama. “General Hospital” fizzled a bit after the big Jason reveal that was more than a year in the making, but as I predicted the wicked Helena Cassadine made her return to the soap last week in glorious fashion and she did not disappoint one single bit. Audiences were teased that Robin Scorpio-Drake might be on her way back to Port Charles after she had a conversation with her ex Patrick about the big Jason reveal.
Her decision to disobey the rules placed her daughter Emma in danger. Hmm, I’m wondering this time around who the hell is keeping Robin hostage and why? I mean can this woman get a break! She’s been held captive virtually for the past 3 years it seems, with brief moments of escape. That torture alone will make a person go crazy. However, fans will be thrilled to know Robin might get that happy ending considering Jason Thompson is leaving the role of Dr. Patrick Drake. Which means the two will sail off into the sunset with their daughter, or, or Patrick might meet an untimely demise!
Jason tracked Helena to Cassadine Island where he got more surprises than he expected. Not only did he come face-to-face with the woman who brainwashed him, he came face-to-face with Nikolas, Sam and Elizabeth who all wanted answers from the villainess.
As usual, Helena toyed with her suspects and didn’t divulge all the details behind Jason’s memory loss, but it was her grandson who got the last laugh. He poisoned her tea which resulted in her death. Hmm, Helena dead, now how many times has that happened on “General Hospital?” More times than I can count! She might be out, but is she dead, I think not. The love triangle involving Jason, Liz and Sam becomes even more complicated because Jason’s memory loss is taking a toll on his emotions, even though he kissed Sam the spark is still not there.
Now the biggest soap surprise in years took place this week, when Carlos, yep, Carlos returned to Port Charles in glorious fashion. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around this one. I’m almost certain Anna shot Julian’s goon and then pushed his body into the dock. He certainly looked dead when he was dumped, so if he didn’t die from the gunshot wound, who rescued him and where the hell has he been? This will put a major ripple and Paul Hornsby’s plans because Anna is not a murderer, and his insurance policy is about to explode.
This bodes even worse news for Sabrina who fainted upon seeing her former lover return in the flesh. She has been busy cavorting with Felix to keep the lid tight on her pregnancy. She is not certain if Michael or if Carlos is the father of her baby. It’s about time things are getting juicy again for Sabrina whose fate on the soap I questioned after Robin’s arrival back in town.
Morgan’s bipolar episodes continue to cause dangerous behavior, just as Kiki received a slap on the wrist for her involvement in Carly’s car crash. Why do I have the feeling that Nina’s tough love approach is just more of a sign that the bond between these two women is more than just friends? I’m calling it now, Kiki is Nina’s long-lost daughter, and Madeline and Dr. Obrecht are well aware of the bombshell.
One can only wonder how Ava will handle the news. Finally, it is apparent that the marriage between Lulu and Dante is kaput. While his betrayed wife grieved, Dante was seen getting busy once again with Valerie who loves every minute of it. There is one slight problem, Dillion is about to leave town and it looks like Lulu is ready to get a bit of revenge on her hubby and cousin for ruining a happy home. For those not in the know, Johnny Zacchara is returning to PC, so could he be the one that provides a shoulder to lean on for his former lover?
For some reason I’m starting to realize that November sweeps are slightly overrated. It seems the bulk of drama or narrative, as I like to call it happens after sweeps actually kick in. “General Hospital” airs weekdays at 2 p.m. on ABC.
