LOS ANGELES—Kings Head Coach John Stevens and General Manager Rob Blake announced that Dave Lowry has been selected as the team’s new Assistant Coach, who Stevens describes as “detailed.”
A native of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, Lowry, 52, has coaching experience in both the NHL and Western Hockey League (WHL). Prior to the Kings, he was the Head Coach for the Victoria Royals from 2012 to 2017.
His coaching career began with the Calgary Hitmen in 2008, where he served as Head Coach, Associate Head Coach, and Assistant Coach. The following season, he became the Assistant Coach for the Flames before moving on to coach the Royals, who qualified for the playoffs every year under his guidance. The team cultivated a 209-124-27 record overall.
Lowry, a former left winger, appeared in 1,084 regular season NHL games. His career commenced with the Vancouver Canucks in 1985. He would then go on to play for the St. Louis Blues, Florida Panthers, San Jose Sharks, and Calgary Flames. He served as the team captain for the Calgary Flames, where he played for nearly 10 years.
In his entire career, he posted 351 points (comprised of 164 goals and 187 assists) and attained 1191 penalty minutes. In six different seasons, Lowry scored at least 10 goals and played for the Florida Panthers when they qualified for the Stanley Cup Final in 1995. He totaled 36 points (comprised of 16 goals and 20 assists) in 111 playoff games. His career ended in 2004 after the Flames lost in the second round of the playoffs.
“I am very excited to join the Kings and John Stevens’ coaching staff. I have a great deal of familiarity with the Kings and the way they help prepare and develop players in particular and I believe I have a good understanding and appreciation of the professionalism of the LA Kings on the whole. I am also appreciative of the time I have spent with the Victoria Royals including Graham Lee as the owner, Cameron Hope as the general manager and my entire staff in Victoria,” Lowry shared.
Lowry’s son, Joel, was selected by the Kings in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and currently plays in the team’s system.
