WOODLAND HILLS—LAPD’s Topanga Division is asking for the public’s help with finding a 68-year-old woman who suffers from dementia and has been reported missing since Thursday, August 13th. Mariko Yamagami was last seen around 6:40 a.m. walking southbound near the 6600 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, close to the Westfield Topanga mall.

Yamagami is described as Japanese, 5 feet 6 inches tall and about 160 pounds. She has gray hair, brown eyes, a medium build, and a light complexion. She was last seen wearing a gray shirt, black pants and white shoes.

Her disappearance has raised concern given her age and medical condition, and the fact that more than three days have passed without her being located. No Silver Alert appears to have yet been issued.

Cases like this are not uncommon among elderly residents with dementia, who can wander from familiar areas and become disoriented. A separate report in June described an 83-year-old woman with dementia who went missing near Leonora Drive in Woodland Hills. However, further details on that case have not been publicly confirmed.

Anyone who sees Yamagami or has information on where she might be located is urged to call LAPD’s Topanga Division at 818-756-4800 or 911. During non-business hours or on weekends, callers can reach the department at 877-527-3247.
