SALT LAKE CITY, UT—On Thursday, September 11, the FBI issued press releases with up-to-date photos of a person of interest in the shooting death of the Christian conservative activist, Charlie Kirk, that took place on the afternoon of September 10, at Utah Valley University. A reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Video footage captured at the scene depicts a male subject on a rooftop approximately 200 yards away from where Kirk was speaking when he was shot. Experts in the field have stated that the suspect was likely on campus an hour prior to the shooting and went unnoticed. The suspect in the photo appears to be a younger man who would likely fit in with the average age of the college students.

The following information was taken directly from a September 11, FBI press release.

“The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the individual(s) responsible for the murder of Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.”

The FBI Special Agent in Charge, Robert Bohls, shared the following information in a September 11 press conference notifying the public of the weapon recovered near the scene of the crime. The full text of the press conference is on the FBI webpage under press releases.

“This morning, I can tell you that we have recovered what we believe is the weapon used in yesterday’s shooting: a high-powered bolt action rifle. That rifle was recovered in a wooded area where the shooter had fled. The FBI Laboratory will be analyzing the weapon. Investigators have also collected footwear impression, a palm print, and forearm imprints for analysis.

I understand there are a lot of questions about motive. I assure you: all leads and tips are being fully investigated. As of this morning, we have received more than 130 tips. The FBI has brought every resource to bear, and we will continue to do so throughout the course of this investigation.”

Soon after President Trump announced to the public that Charlie Kirk had been assassinated, news reports circulated that the shooter was in custody.

This was the first news that was reported. Yes, American’s watched as the first suspect was shouting and taken into custody. He was charged with obstruction, but the first man taken in for questioning was not the person responsible for the shooting of Charlie Kirk. A second man was then taken in for questioning. Then, news reports circulated that there was a police chase involving a white van. These leads may/may not have been charged for other crimes, but they are not suspected of killing Charlie Kirk.

The FBI has made it clear that the suspect(s) is/are still at large. The FBI is seeking public assistance in identifying the person responsible for the death of Charlie Kirk.
