SANTA MONICA—Four restaurants were forced to close their doors and had their permits suspended by the Los Angeles County Health Department between May 17 and June 3 for not following health guidelines.
The restaurants included: Crazy Otto’s Diner on Wayne Mills Place in Santa Clarita, Naan Hut on Santa Monica Boulevard, nearby restaurant Monte Alban and DeFranko’s Submarines on Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys. Below are their health scores and reasoning for closure:
Crazy Otto’s Diner:

Closure reason: failure to comply with health officer order
Closure date: May 17
Reopen date: May 19
Grade: A, 98
Naan Hut:

Closure reason: cockroaches
Closure date: May 20
Reopen date: May 29
Grade: B, 84
DeFranko’s Submarines:

Closure reason: no hot water
Closure date: June 3
Reopen date: June 4
Grade: A, 91
Monte Alban:

Closure reason: cockroaches
Closure date: June 4
Reopen date: still closed
Grade: B, 84
Crazy Otto’s was reported to have been offering dine-in services prior to clearance during the stay-at-home order, resulting in the closure.
Health inspectors did not disclose the amount of cockroaches or area they infested within the businesses. A food industry must remain closed until another inspection is completed before they can reopen.
