HOLLYWOOD—It seemed February was about to turn into a month at the box-office that was one of the worst in years. Yes, revenue has been down at the box-office so far this month, but all it took was an animated flick to change things. The third chapter in the “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise took the box-office by storm this Oscar weekend.

“How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” rose to the top spot with more than $55.5 million. The earnings put the movie at the top debut of 2019 so far, and is the largest debut for franchise. Its predecessor earned $49.5 million in 2014. Falling to second place was “Alita: Battle Angel” with $12 million. The sci-fi adventure has since earned over $60 million at the domestic box-office since its release.

“The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” dropped to third place with $10 million. After 3 weeks in theaters, the animated flick has earned over $83 million. It is likely to cross the $100 million mark at the domestic box-office, but seems like a box-office bust compared to its counterparts. Landing in fourth place was the dramedy “Fighting With Family” with a meek $8 million.

Rounding out the top five was the comedy “Isn’t It Romantic” with $7.5 million to bring its domestic gross to $33 million. We could see major changes at the box-office this week as Tyler Perry bids adieu to his character Madea with the comedy “A Madea Family Funeral” and the thriller “Greta” starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Isabelle Huppert are released into theaters.
