MALIBU—At 12:02 p.m., on Saturday, December 13, the National Weather Service Forecast Officer in Los Angeles issued an air quality alert for Los Angeles County that is in effect until Monday, December 15, at midnight.
This alert indicates that fine particulate pollution will be high over the next two days. In addition, the South Coast Air Quality Management District announced a mandatory wood-burning ban for the South Coast Air Basin.
This ban forbids residents from burning wood, along with manufactured fire logs and pellets and it also applies regardless of it is done outside or inside.
The reason for this ban is that it is possible for smoke particles to be inhaled when wood is burned after they ended up in the lugs which causes health issues.
