SANTA MONICA—The suspect responsible for assaulting a 56 year-old male has been arrested. The victim was found lying on the ground on Monday, February 17, the Santa Monica Police Department announced. At approximately 6:00 a.m., officers responded to the 1500 block of Alley 12, between Broadway and Colorado Avenue after receiving a call about a possible assault.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they found a male laying on the ground with a blanket. Officers discovered, the victim had been assaulted. He was conscious and speaking with officers. He suffered what appeared to be blunt force trauma to his upper body, including his face and head. The victim was transported to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.

Lt. Joseph Cortez of the SMPD indicated in an email to Canyon News that while on scene, the victim was able to provide officers with a detailed description of the suspect involved in this assault as well as an account of the events of the incident. The suspect was located on 12th Street and Wilshire Boulevard. 

Officers placed Kevin Robert Fremlin under arrest for the assault. He was booked for 664/187(a) PC – Attempt Murder.

On Wednesday, February 19, detectives from the Santa Monica Police Department presented this case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The District Attorney filed the following charges against Fremlin:

Count 1: 664/187(a) PC – Attempt Murder Count 2: 205 PC – Aggravated Assault  Count 3: 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon
