SHERMAN OAKS—On Friday, May 23 a DUI suspect led police through the San Fernando Valley along a low-speed car chase before an onlooker jumped in front of the vehicle to end the chase in Sherman Oaks.

The suspect was driving a 2004 Ford Mustang convertible with the words “victory parade” across one side and “war over, we win” across the other. Throughout the chase, the male driver reportedly waved and gave thumbs up and peace signs to onlookers.

The chase began shortly before 6 p.m. at the 8400 block of Reseda Boulevard in Northridge. Police attempted to stop the vehicle using spike strips, but the car was going slow enough to avoid the strips. The suspect was only driving 10 mph at some points. The chase ended when a man, whom witnesses reportedly described as homeless, jumped in front of the car, causing the driver to get out and surrender.

The car stopped between Ventura Boulevard and Van Nuys. Both the suspect and the homeless man were handcuffed and taken in for questioning by authorities.
