SANTA MONICA—ON September 26, at 9:39 p.m., officers with the Santa Monica Police Department arrived at a house in the 3100 block of Pico Boulevard for a welfare check. They found the bodies of two adults, a husband and a wife.  Detectives concluded that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide.

Authorities reported the incident occurred at 6:42 a.m. and early findings suggest the husband shot his wife and then himself. At the scene, investigators found a firearm. This appears to have been an isolated incident with no other individuals involved, and there is no threat to the public.

The identities of the deceased are being withheld until the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner notifies their next of kin. The Medical Examiner will also make the final determination of the cause of death.  Anyone with details about the incident is asked to call the SMPD at 310-458-8427 and speak with the Watch Commander 24 hours a day.

Canyon News reached out to the SMPD for comment but did not receive a response before publication.
