SANTA MONICA—On Thursday, June 25, the Santa Monica Police Department announced two of its officers, Officer Jonas Pandya and Officer Jacqueline Frausto Ramirez were honored by the California branch of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.A.D.) for their efforts to combat driving under the influence of alcohol, receiving a formal reward.

Each year, the CA branch of M.A.A.D. awards police officers, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies, prosecutors, and other first responders who demonstrate a strong commitment to keeping people safe on California’s roads by removing impaired drivers and an outstanding commitment to enforcing driving-under-the-influence laws. Both officers received the awards at the 26th MADD California Law Enforcement Recognition Awards.

Officer Pandya was celebrated for making 25 DUI arrests, and Officer Ramirez was honored for 21 DUI arrests.

M.A.A.D. is a nonprofit organization that advocates against drunk driving. It was founded in California in September 1980 by Candace Lightner after the death of her 13-year-old daughter, Cari, at the hands of a drunk driver.
