RIVERSIDE—The Riverside Deaf Seniors held a workshop on June 25 to discuss identity fraud and to celebrate Flag Day. To celebrate the day, attendees of the workshop were encouraged to wear the colors red, white and/or blue.
Though it was celebrated on June 25, Flag Day officially occurred on June 14. According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Flag Day came into being on June 14, 1777, after Congress adopted the resolution “the flag of the United States shall be of thirteen stripes of alternate red and white, with a union of thirteen stars of white in a blue field, representing the new constellation.”
The event started at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch and social. At 12:00 p.m. the workshop began, a detective was invited to talk about identity theft as well as fraud and theft. Once the workshop ended, the event held dice games starting at 1:00 p.m. and they were scheduled to end at 4:00 p.m.
The event was held at the Janet Goeske Center on 5257 Sierra Street in Riverside,CA. An ice cream parlor was also held at the event for $2.00 at the door.
