HOLLYWOOD HILLS—A robbery suspect was shot and killed by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department on Monday, November 25.
The suspect entered a local auto parts store on Highland Avenue and Sunset Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. where he robbed the establishment at knife point. The knife turned out to be a machete between one and one and a half feet in length, noted Lieutenant Chris Ramirez during a press conference talking to reporters.
The suspect left with the property in hand and headed to a local fast-food establishment drive thru where he carjacked a person in line and used the vehicle to attempt and evade authorities. In the process of evading police, the suspect crashed into two police squad cars and exited the vehicle. He tried running away with the machete in hand.
Authorities on scene tried using non-lethal options to stop the suspect, when he started running towards officers with the machete. An officer-involved shooting transpired where the suspect was struck by the gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
One officer sustained minor injuries to his knee and elbow during the incident. He was treated on the scene and release. The name of the suspect has not been disclosed to the public. Officers are still investigating the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the LAPD.
