SANTA MONICA—On October 28, the Santa Monica City Council moved to employ water conservation initiatives, urging local residents and business owners to reduce their water usage by 20 percent.
The City Council also dedicated $400,000 in the name of incentive and water conservation programs.
To combat the state of California‘s prolonged drought, the council has advised a number of short and long-term measures that can be used to conserve water.
The city encourages the replacement of water in-efficient appliances, minimizing shower time, and replacing grass lawns with desert and other water-smart landscape. Locals are expected to eliminate runoff and to avoid washing paved areas. Restaurant owners have been asked to only serve water upon customer request.
Violations of water usage can be reported to the Code Compliance Office at (310) 458-4984.
