UNITED STATES—The New Year seems like ions ago, but it only has been 2 months to be exact. Like you, my resolutions that started off the New Year are done and over. I went pretty strong for about a month and then everything started to fall apart.

It wasn’t that I didn’t want to stay committed; it’s the fact that I allowed myself to be tempted. If you place yourself in a situation where the things that you should not have are in your orbit, you’ll likely cave in. If you falter on a resolution like I said before it’s not the end of the world. You can pick yourself back up and restart all over again.

I did that 2 weeks ago. I told myself that I was going to exercise more and I’ve stuck to that commitment. Now have there been days where I absolutely did not want to do it? You bet your you know what. However, in the back of my mind I had that lingering feeling; you said you were going to do it. I don’t care how tired you are, you better work out for the next 30 minutes to an hour. Many of us have machinery in our homes. I know people who tell me they can’t exercise without music or TV. Well, the cellphone is so versatile now; it can be used not only for calling, but music and watching TV or music. If you don’t exercise it’s simply because you don’t want to, and you have to ask yourself why that is.

A reboot all starts with the individual. You have to examine what you are eating, when you are exercising and when you’re not. If you can keep consistency when you want to exercise or when you have free time to do it, you need to do it. As for food, that can be tricky; you can have those days where you are just exhausted, had such a tough work day that the only thing you want to do is close your eyes and take a nap.

However, remind yourself that you made a commitment and by breaking that commitment you are failing yourself. Again we always make mistakes, and it is ok to make a mistake and it’s not the end of the world. You can reboot, you can restart, and you have an opportunity to continue to work on that goal that you want to accomplish. If you have a house full of junk food and your goal is to not excessively eat sweets, you got to get rid of them. On top of that, don’t continue to buy them.

You cannot be tempted by items if you do not have them in the home to begin with America. I say this time and time and time again: if you’re only healthy regimen in a household where everyone else is not, find a way to get everyone else on board with you. You cannot expect everyone to eat the same foods as you, but it lessens the degree of you falling off the wagon if others are eating similar foods as yourself.

The thing about trying to readjust a bad habit is the mind will battle you. Why? You’ve become engrained with that bad habit; it’s something you’re used to and even if you’re NOT supposed to do it, you want to do it. You can’t remedy a bad habit overnight it takes time. However, as someone once told me if it’s something you truly want to accomplish, you will do all in your power to ensure it manifests itself to fruition. You control your own fate.
