HOLLYWOOD—This week I caught up with the stunningly beautiful actress Lilly Melgar. Lilly’s diverse and distinguished career began as she hosted shows such as, “Tu Musica,” “Desde Hollywood” and “Ritmo Internacional.” She then joined “General Hospital” as Lilly Rivera Corinthos, the daughter and wife of mob bosses, which led to the character’s shocking demise. Melgar is still revered by “GH” fans for the most beloved character she played. In 1997, Lilly joined the cast of “The Bold and The Beautiful” as Claudia Cortez for over a year. Then the actress returned in 2003 to “General Hospital” in a different role.

Melgar also appeared in several films, including “Last Call,” “Americanizing of Shelley,” “Season of Life” and “Hollywood Familia.” The beautiful star now is appearing on Gregori Martin’s popular Web series “The Bay” as Janice. Lilly tells readers about her life and fabled career.

Q-Have you been enjoying the latest webisodes of “The Bay” as much as fans have?

A-“I have! The last couple of webisodes were our best so far. It’s taken a little time to find our way in this new medium. It’s quite challenging to tell a story that’s engaging enough for people to return weekly within the time restrictions we all face. Yet, I believe we are on the right path. The fans’ loyal support seems to confirm that. I’m excited for people to see the upcoming webisodes. They just keep getting better.”

Q-This is a different character for you, how did you prepare to play this type of role?

A-“Interesting question. As an actor, there are roles that are more difficult than others and require far greater preparation. In my case, playing Lily on ‘General Hospital’ was one of my most difficult. We were so different. Whereas with Janice, I just get her. I understand her. What’s most challenging with Janice is that she’s the mother of a rebellious teenage daughter and that’s where most of my preparation has gone. Speaking with moms in that position, hours and hours of getting together with Jade Harlow to discuss our relationship and create a history. That’s the type of preparation I’ve invested in.”

Q-Did you ever think “The Bay” would be as successful as it has turned out to be?

A-“Tommy, I had no idea! This has been an incredibly pleasant surprise. It’s been an exciting ride. I know it sounds like the politically correct thing to say, but I am genuinely sincere when I say that I am honored to work with the quality of people (not just actors) that I am working with. I was hoping we’d have success considering the team Gregori (Martin) put together and the positive attitude and energy we all came on board with but you just never know. Gregori has done an outstanding job at getting the fans and press involved, yet that doesn’t guarantee success. I think we’re all feeling very grateful.”

Q-What would you like to do on the show that you haven’t had the opportunity to do yet?

A-“Again, because of the time restriction, there is very little that I’ve actually been able to do. Therefore there is so much to look forward to. Working with Joe Lando and developing that onscreen relationship is at the top of my list.”

Q-Do you still get questions about Lily’s possible return on “General Hospital” even as a ghost?

A-“I was very fortunate to have been part of such a special time on ”˜GH.’ Therefore, yes, I am consistently asked about a possible return. Yet, I am really excited about playing Janice Ramos on ”˜The Bay’ and having my fans experience a completely different character. She is so vastly different from Lily that it’s exciting to have the opportunity to show such different shades of my personal palette.”
