HOLLYWOOD—In a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office it was announced that on February 4, a 47-year-old Compton man was convicted of pimping and sexual assaults of young women.

According to Deputy District Attorney Rachel Hardiman, who prosecuted the case, in August 2010, Rulie Chevez Sprewell began to pimp for an 18-year-old girl in Hollywood.

On August 19, 2010, the young girl got into a “clients” car who happened to be an undercover officer. Once she had been taken into custody she told police that Sprewell had been her pimp for several weeks and that he had just recently beaten her.

In October 2011, the suspect found another victim and forced a 16-year-old girl to prostitute. He used violent threats and tactics to control her behavior. While working in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Compton, Sprewell assaulted the girl more than 50 times in a three-month period. The girl was taken into custody by police in December 2011.

In case NA092429, the jury found defendant guilty of seven felony counts, which included three counts of forcible oral copulation, one count each for pimping of a minor of 16 years of age, pandering by encouraging a minor over age 16, pimping, and pandering by procuring.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Judith L. Meyer found Sprewell had previously been convicted of robbery.

The sentencing for Sprewell is scheduled for April 21, 2016 in Department S17 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Long Beach Branch. Sprewell could face up to a maximum sentence of 63 years in a state prison.
