MALIBU—A car thief and his accomplice who abandoned their car at Malibu’s Broad Beach Saturday, July 22 after they led California Highway Patrol officers on a car chase through Ventura County have been arrested.

CHP officers arrested one of the suspects near Broad Beach and deputies from the sheriff’s Malibu-Lost Hills station arrested the second suspect around 9:20 a.m., according to a watch sergeant at the sheriff’s station.

According to reports, CHP officials initiated the car chase after spotting the  stolen vehicle in the Oxnard area. The men bailed out in the 3100 block of Broad Beach Road, near Trancas Creek.

The CHP were notified of the incident around 7:03 a.m. and assisted in the investigation, noted CHP Officer Peter Nicholson

A Ventura County Sheriff’s helicopter arrived around 8 a.m. and searched the coast at a very low altitude to assist authorities in locating  the suspects on the rocky shore, while the CHP and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputies searched the region.

There were no reports of any injuries during the incident. The names of the suspects have not yet been disclosed to the public.
