BEVERLY HILLS—My name is “Webber” and I’m a Rhodesian Ridgeback/German Shepherd mix.  If you notice a kind of puzzled and sad look on my face, it’s because I was given up for reasons that I don’t understand.
When I was brought to the Friends of Animals Foundation my family said that I was loving, loyal, protective of my family, and great with people. Aren’t those good qualities? I may be a little stand-off-ish to strangers –  that is the personality of a Ridgeback – but I am not aggressive.
I was raised with a Lab who passed away a couple of years ago, and haven’t had socialization with other dogs, so I show some aggression to them.  But being a mix of a Ridgeback and Shepherd, two very intelligent breeds, I’m quite sure that with some gentle, but firm training, I will be able to overcome that behavior.  I already know voice and hand commands for sit, stay, and heel. And, yes, I’m housetrained, too.
I love to take walks, and I’ll walk beside you and not pull on the leash.  If you like to jog, I’d make a great jogging partner!
However – and this is a big however – at this time, being away from my family, I’m very fearful and skittish and need lots of tender, loving care. So, I hope that I can find a family that will have the time and patience to help me get over my fears.
If you come to see me, please don’t feel rejected if I don’t warm up to you right away.  As I said before, that is the personality of the Ridgeback, so you have to give me time.  Okay?
If I’m not the one for you, you can see all of the other dogs that are here if you check our website at: foafla.petfinder.com.  Or, if you’re a cat person, you’ll see some real beauties on the website, too!
And, if you have some spare time, we always welcome volunteers!
