PACIFIC PALISADES—”Property Brothers” star Jonathan Scott is rebuilding his fiancée Zooey Deschanel’s childhood home, which burned down in the 2025 Palisades Fire. Deschanel’s parents, the home’s primary residents, lost not only their home, but cherished family heirlooms. With years of experience transforming fixer-uppers on the hit TV show “Property Brothers,” on HGTV, Scott decided to help the family rebuild.

Instead of constructing the home the old-fashioned way, Scott is using disaster-proof technology in place of wood. The system is called RSG 3-D, an innovative construction system its manufacturer says is fireproof, floodproof, and earthquake-proof. The company behind RSG 3-D claims that over the past 30 years, no RSG 3-D structure has been damaged by a natural disaster.

Scott intends to make the home resemble the original 100-year-old Spanish Revival-style house. In a CNN interview with Elex Michaelson, Scott said, “For me to think that people aren’t automatically putting this in, the only explanation is they don’t know about it.”

On average, the RSG 3-D system costs about 10 percent more than building with wood. Scott believes more people should be aware of this potentially life-saving technology when rebuilding their homes, whether in the Pacific Palisades or worldwide. Jonathan and his twin Drew are host of the hit series “Property Brothers” on HGTV which has been airing on the cable channel since 2011 and ran for a total of 7 seasons.
