LOS ANGELES— Congratulations to Shohei Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka who welcomed their second child on June 20, as Ohtani was out of the lineup on Friday night.

“We are again overjoyed to experience this wonderful day in our lives together. Thank you for being born safely,” read a message from Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka. They also thanked supporters.

The news that Ohtani was about to welcome a second child was a surprise Friday. He wasn’t in the Dodgers’ lineup, which was posted much later than usual, after the team said he was “away from the team on paternity.”

The post showed an image of a baby’s hands and feet in a blue blanket, possibly an indication that Ohtani has a son to go with his daughter, who was born in April 2025. Tucked in the baby’s arms was a tiny stuffed animal version of Ohtani’s beloved dog, Decoy, who also got his own photo at the bottom of the post.

Ohtani didn’t spend much time handing out cigars, as he was in the lineup the following day, belting his 16th home run of the year in a 3-2 loss against the Baltimore Orioles.

At this point, it is truly difficult to add more superlatives, adjectives or wordy descriptions of his greatness. Ryan Ward served as the Dodgers’ designated hitter and batted seventh Friday.

His ability to focus and compartmentalize his numerous obligations is astounding. Ohtani remains in line to make his next start from the mound Wednesday on the road against the Minnesota Twins, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

Ohtani has never publicly revealed his daughter’s name and has carefully avoided showing her face in the rare family photos he posts to his social media.

On Monday, June 22 Shohei Ohtani led the game off with a no-doubter home run to right field. Since returning from Paternity leave on Saturday, two of Ohtani’s three hits have been home runs.

The Dodgers defeated the Minnesota twins by a score of 2-1, what an amazing weekend for the Ohtani’s.

Canyon News would like to wish the happy couple congratulations on the birth of their new baby.
