SHERMAN OAKS—On Wednesday, July 1, Nicolas Johnson, 28, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Sepulveda Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. The crash occurred around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Valley Meadow Road, just west of the 405 Freeway. Johnson was driving a gray Toyota GR86 when his vehicle struck a curb and then hit a light pole.
Personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene. The Los Angeles Police Department said the crash remains under investigation, with Coroner Investigator Laura Araujo of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner working to determine exactly what transpired.
It is not yet known whether impairment or mechanical failure played a role in the collision. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma.
