MALIBU—The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff Station deputies, around 2 p.m. on June 30, arrived in Westlake Village in response to a report and, in the attic of a residence, discovered historical military ordnance.
These deputies issued evacuation orders. Then they contacted the Arson and Explosives unit, which dispatched officers to the scene, who then took control of the investigation and examined the item.
Once it was deemed safe, the evacuation orders were lifted, and the residents were able to return.
The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff Station warns residents not to pick up or touch any objects that may be explosives. They should contact law enforcement, who will send experts to evaluate the item(s).
