UNITED STATES—Cellphones, streaming, driverless vehicles, artificial intelligence, the list goes on and on. Technology is constantly evolving and it’s scaring the hell out of me. Especially, AI. Why? The moment I try to search something on Google, Yahoo or some other search engine, I’m getting a summary from AI and I hate it.
I don’t want an AI summary of something. I don’t, because AI is not always accurate. There is this theory that if you utilize AI it’s going to present factual evidence all the time and it’s going to be 100 percent accurate. Guess what America? This is tech that has been created by humans, so it’s going to have flaws. Plain and simple.
This idea of perfection when it comes to technology is the problem. It is making us lazy as human beings. Yes, I love a cellphone because it is another way to communicate. However, they have turned us into complete zombies. We are on them 24/7 and we’re constantly using them without doing actual communication with actual people face-to-face. I can only imagine how people will react if they didn’t have their cellphone for 24 hours 48 hours or 72 hours at best. Quite frank, most of them would lose their mind.
The streaming aspect is just terrible for actually enjoying the movie experience. No one really wants to go to the movies anymore. Everyone prefers to stream things on their phone, tablet or TV. I hate to admit it, but I am even guilty of it as well. However, I am trying to adjust that by taking more frequent trips to the movie theater, so I get that actual escape. When you’re in the theater you can cut off from everything, but at home that is very difficult to do.
The driverless vehicles are another issue because you have to worry about is the safety. Driving is all about being perceptive to the things around you, but a vehicle without a driver cannot always quickly react to such stimuli like a speeding vehicle or a drunk driving. Not to mention there are so many incidents of late of these driverless vehicles crashes and malfunctioning.
The big tech issue that has become a blessing and a curse is AI? Why? Everyone just utilizes it as the go to method to do anything, especially when it comes to looking up information. Typing up an email seems to be the go-to method. You don’t have to do much thinking if AI is going to type up the email for you. Hell, it is even being used by students to prepare their written essays. They simply make adjustments to the ‘paper’ to try to make seem like it is not as AI generated as people expect.
We are lazy, that is the problem; we don’t want to put in the work that we need to put in. We have become too reliant on tech for everyday life in operations. The thought of just waking up one day and not having tech at all would be interesting to see how Americans navigate. This totally holds true when it comes to social media. I would love to see how celebrities and just the average American would react to NOT being able to put online every single thing they are doing in a given day.
