WEST HOLLYWOOD—The cities of West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica teamed up to collaborate on a public art project highlighting Route 66. The collaborative art installation will feature a series titled “Path Discovery,” by artist Vinnie Hagar. “Path Discovery” will feature art relating to the significance of Route 66 along the Mather Road from West Hollywood to the Pacific Ocean.

It highlights graphic art appearing on vinyl wraps along street poles throughout West Hollywood and Santa Monica. The artwork will be featured as art banners along Santa Monica Boulevard in Beverly Hills. The artwork will feature customized Route 66 shields and graphic motifs displaying an artist’s unique take on the Route 66 design.

Path Discovery initially launched on August 12 and is set to continue until November. This is the first time that the three cities collaborated in a shared public art initiative. West Hollywood initiated the project through its Creative Plan, which is a three-year arts and culture initiative leading up to the 2028 Olympic Games. City officials say the collaboration may serve as a model for future regional cultural projects.

In addition to the Path Discovery art project, each city is programming additional Route 66 centennial celebrations from August until October. West Hollywood is planning a full day of Route 66 festivities on Sunday, August 16 at Plummer Park located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, featuring a classic car show and a celebration of Route 66 artists and art.

Beverly Hills is planning a Route-66-themed art-making event on Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18 at the Beverly Hills Art Show in Beverly Gardens Park, located at 9439 Santa Monica Boulevard.

Santa Monica is hosting a music contest on Sunday, September 13, inviting musicians and songwriters to submit an original song that captures the significance of the iconic Route 66. The grand prize is $10,000, and submissions are due September 13.
