CALIFORNIA—On July 17, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Antoine Jones, 54, a.k.a. Twinal, of Compton, was charged with killing Meah Bordenave-Jenkins, 19, a nursing student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also injured two other victims, a 15-year-old girl and an 18-year-old girl.
Jones faces four felony counts, including one count of first-degree murder, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, and two counts of attempted murder and is alleged of discharging a handgun during the shooting.
At a July 16 press conference attended by Ebony Jenkins, the mother of Bordenave-Jenkins, and several of the deceased’s family members, the defendant’s arrest was announced.
Around 11:30 p.m. on July 4, deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Compton Station arrived at an apartment complex in the 700 block of West Laurel Street after receiving reports of multiple people being shot. Deputies found Bordenave-Jenkins and two victims outside the complex with gunshot wounds. Jenkins died at the scene. The other two victims were taken to the hospital for treatment and were later released.
During the investigation, Jenkins and the other two victims attended a Fourth of July celebration inside the complex, organized on TikTok. Homicide detectives identified Jones as the suspect. Investigators worked with detectives from the Operation Safe Street Bureau and the Anaheim Police Department to locate Jones who was arrested July 14 in LA.
The APD suspects Jones of participating in a drive-by shooting that occurred on June 29 and involved two men due to a domestic dispute involving a woman. During their investigation, they recovered a Mac-10-style weapon.
Jones pleaded not guilty and remains in custody on a $5,060,000 bail. He will appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 29 in Department D of the Compton Courthouse, where bail will be reviewed. If found guilty, he faces a potential sentence of up to 117 years to life in a California state prison.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Kylie Starr of the Gang Homicide Division.
