MALIBU—Around 9:20 p.m. on August 17, a tiny brush fire was detected on Yerba Buena Road in the Santa Monica Mountains in Ventura County, which is located west of the Malibu city limits and roughly 5 miles north of Pacific Coast Highway. At around 1:47 p.m. on August 18, the city of Malibu indicated that the Ventura County Fire Department stopped the fire’s spread using a pair of fixed-wing aircraft to drop water and extinguish the flames after it spread across two acres.
There were no threats of fire to Malibu, and the city thanked the Ventura County Fire Department for its work and for keeping the area safe. No official cause of the fire has been disclosed to the public. The city of Malibu monitors fires in neighboring counties and will release information to citizens to keep them informed of possible danger.
Residents are asked to remember to plan for emergencies, including mapping evacuation routes and gathering important documents and emergency supplies.
