VENICE BEACH—On Monday, December 22, a man was discovered washed-up along the shore near Marina Del Rey.

The man was discovered by a civilian at 1:50 p.m. and at least one individual attempted to perform CPR on him before EMT’s arrived. Medical officials pronounced the victim dead on the scene.

Homicide detectives did investigate the scene, but it is believed the man’s death was accidental.

The victim has been identified as Chong Nam Kwak, 61, of Los Angeles. His death appears to be the result  of having a plastic bag became tangled in the propeller of his inflatable boat, leaving the craft vulnerable to the violent surf and causing it to capsize.

Kwak’s boat was found by beach lifeguards near his corpse.
