HOLLYWOOD—Film and TV director, as well as producer Mike Nichols, died at the age of 83 on November 19.
Nichols was one of the few people to win an Emmy, a Tony award, an Oscar and a Grammy. He was famous for such films as “The Graduate,” “The Odd Couple” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolfe.”
ABC News president James Goldston released a statement announcing, “He was a true visionary, winning the highest honors in the arts for his work as a director, writer, producer and comic, and was one of a tiny few to win the EGOT – an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony – in his lifetime.” Nichols’ wife, Diane Sawyer, was the anchor for ABC News.
Several celebrities tweeted about the passing of the esteemed director.

Kevin Spacey tweeted, “Mike Nichols gave me my start. A mentor, friend, colleague. One of the best observers of life. My thoughts are with Diane & his children.”
