SANTA MONICA—On September 21, the Santa Monica Police Department announced it is investigating a death that the department believes may be the result of an overdose.
At 9:35 a.m. on September 20, officers responded to a report of a possible overdose in the 1000 block of Berkeley Street and discovered the body of a man. Ten minutes later, paramedics determined he was dead. The Office of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the man as Presley Gerber, 27, who died at a rehabilitation facility.
Presley Gerber was born on July 2, 1999. He is the eldest child of model, Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, whom she married on May 29, 1998. Presley’s younger sister is model and actress Kaia Jordan Gerber, who starred in the FX show “The Shards” and appeared in the 2024 film “Saturday Night” as Jacqueline Gerber, who was married to Chevy Chase from 1976 to 1980.
On September 21, a deputy medical examiner examined the body and deferred the official determination of the cause and manner of his death, as further testing and studies have been ordered. The investigation is ongoing, and officials cannot disclose which studies or tests were requested. The agency will release further information to the public as it becomes available.
Gerber graduated from Malibu High School in 2017. He started modeling in 2014 after IMG Models signed him and worked with various companies and designers, including Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger. In 2018, he appeared in a Pepsi commercial with his mother that aired during the Super Bowl.
In January 2019, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Gerber was sentenced to 3 years of probation, 2 days of community service, and completion of a DUI program. In 2023, he appeared on an episode of the podcast Studio 22 and discussed his struggles with depression.
