Distressed Hiker Rescued In Griffith Park
A hiker was rescued after getting trapped on a mountain near Griffith Park.

GRIFFITH PARK—A distressed hiker was saved by a crew of firefighters after he got stuck on the side of a mountain in Griffith Park on Monday, April 25.

Fire officials stated that they received a report of a stranded hiker at about 3:05 p.m. The hiker was trapped on a steep hillside near Bee Rock, with no way of getting back up the mountain.

Once rescue crews responded to the scene, a firefighter rappelled down the side of the mountain to get to the hiker.

A video from ABC 7 depicts the region where the rescue took place along with the rescue itself. After the firefighter rappelled down the mountain, he tied a harness around the hiker and the two of them were pulled upward by a wench system that was attached to the rope that was attached to their harnesses, allowing them to scale back up the mountain.

The initial plan was to airlift the hiker out via helicopter, but the crew decided that it would be safer to have a firefighter retrieve the hiker.

The hiker was pulled to safety at around 3:50 p.m. According to fire officials, the hiker was said to be uninjured and declined to go to a hospital.
