SACRAMENTO—On June 15, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Instagram page he believes President Trump is investigating him. Whistleblower reports indicate that it was not Governor Newsom, but his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who is being accused of funneling funds from her girl’s club non-profit to herself. The investigation stems from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Sacramento.
“He’s not investigating me because of mean tweets. He’s investigating me because I am considering running for President,” stated Newsom.
All prospective presidential candidates are investigated. The first investigation of President Trump was in 2015. According to CalMatters, the state of California sued President Trump and his administration 123 times from 2017 until 2021.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office reported that the cost of those lawsuits was approximately $10,000 per year. Another 60 lawsuits were filed against Trump in a joint effort between AG Bonta and Governor Newsom between 2025 and 2026.
“Fifty-two lawsuits have been filed, funded by you, in a way in this special session that all of you led,” Newsom stated. He contends the President illegally froze federal funding. “You can’t cut off critical food assistance for millions of people. You can’t send the military into American cities without justification, and you cannot cut off funding of medical research, homeland security, or disaster response,” Newsom added.
Trump initially threatened to freeze funds after California authorities refused to follow protocol for wildfire prevention. He reiterated to Governor Newsom during his visit, reminding the Governor the need for debris removal to prevent wildfires, which was not completed. The Ynez Reservoir was bone dry, leaving fire hydrants lacking the water or water pressure to save residents and their homes.
The accusation Newsom made about cutting off funding of “medical research” is in reference to returning the issue of abortion to the states. The U.S. Government no longer uses U.S. tax dollars to fund abortion or abortion research. Medical research done on aborted fetuses is not funded by the U.S. government anywhere, not just in California.
President Trump sent in the U.S. National Guard to California to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement as they executed warrants. Local police chiefs ordered their officers to stand down. The National Guard was deployed to assist ICE agents with crowd control.
