SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Museum of Art, founded in 1984, moved from the original Bergamot location to a temporary location in Century City in May 2015. Executive Director Elsa Longhauser released a statement revealing plans to move the Santa Monica Museum of Art to a new location.

The Santa Monica Museum of Art has been renamed the ICA LA (The Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles). The new location will be at the Art’s District in Los Angeles. The move is expected to take place in fall 2017.  “Our mission is to support art that sparks the pleasure of discovery and challenges the way we see and experience the world, ourselves and each other,” states the ICA LA website.

Besides the new name, ICA LA is sporting a new logo design created by artist Mark Bradford.

“I wanted to be a part of propelling ICA LA and its long history forward. The logo and treatment reference merchant posters found from LA’s Westside to LA’s Eastside, which point to the fluidity of both economics and culture,” states Bradford.

The new building is currently under construction with a design made by the architectural firm wHY, headed by director Kulapat Yantrasast.
