LOS ANGELES—Lakers superstar Luka Doncic is preparing for the 2026-27 NBA season and getting to know his new teammates. Doncic is hosting a four-day minicamp in his home country Slovenia, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

Last season Doncic leads the league in scoring with 33.5 points per game, adding 8.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds. He led the Lakers to a 53-win fourth seed while finishing fourth in MVP voting.

Doncic suffered a hamstring injury before the playoffs started and the Lakers were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round of the playoffs. Changes came soon after with LeBron James deciding he wasn’t going to return with the team and money opening up to sign other players.

Essentially this a brand-new roster for the Lakers. This offseason they lost LeBron James to the Philadelphia 76ers. Role players went onto different teams like Rui Hachimura, Marcus Smart, Luke Kennard, Deandre Ayton via trade, and Jaxson Hayes.

There were many additions the team made, despite losing players. Lakers acquired Walker Kessler via sign-and-trade and Jaden Hardy through a trade. Also signed Quentin Grimes, Matisse Thybulle, Collin Sexton, Sandro Manukelashvili, Ziarie Williams, and more.

The team difference from this past season to the offseason is night and day. The minicamp Doncic is hosting gives the team an opportunity to gel with the team over time and get better with each other.

Luka Doncic is now the undisputed number one on the team and looks to take action as a leader. The minicamp will be before preseason.
