SANTA MONICA—On Tuesday, February 23, the city of Santa Monica announced the re-opening of the Santa Monica Swim Center after its annual winter maintenance as well as a comprehensive renovation closure from November 2015 to February 2016.

The $1.3 million renovation project that happened during the annual maintenance will significantly decrease the volume of future repairs and the cost of operating the Swim Center and at the same time, ensure the Swim Center continues to meet the high standards customers expect, both in usability and safety. Upgrades include all new pool decks and pool tiling, LED pool lights and new lockers.

“We’re pleased to say that the renovation project was completed on time and under budget. And we would like to thank our users and the community for their patience,” said Karen Ginsberg, Director of the City of Santa Monica’s Community & Cultural Services Department.

The Santa Monica Swim Center is one of the most popular public facilities in Santa Monica, owned and operated by the city government.

With the center’s Olympic-size pool, it offers both short-course (25-meter) and long-course (50-meter) lap swimming. There is also a 10-lane instructional “splash” pool with four feet maximum shallow depth, which is perfect for teaching youngsters to paddle.

The city of Santa Monica also extended a invitation to community members of all ages to attend the grand re-opening event to celebrate the newly improved Swim Center on Saturday, February 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature crafts, family activities, music and food.
