SANTA MONICA—On September 25, the Santa Monica Police Department said officers responded around 5:47 P.M. the day before, the 24th, to reports of a traffic collision. The collision occurred at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and 5th Street, where a vehicle struck a female pedestrian. The pedestrian is 82 years old.
Based on its initial findings, the SMPD believes she was walking south through the crosswalk on the intersection’s eastern side and that the vehicle that struck her was turning left onto eastbound Wilshire Boulevard from the southbound side of 5th Street. Santa Monica Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the woman to a local hospital for medical treatment; she is in critical condition. The driver remained at the scene to assist the police officers.
The SMPD has not released the victim’s or the driver’s name. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities will release additional information to the public once it is confirmed and available.
