STUDIO CITY—On Sunday, August 16, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that a repeat burglar in Studio City has been arrested.

The LAPD reported on August 7, North Hollywood Division officers responded to the 3800 block of Rhodes Avenue for a possible burglary in progress. The homeowner, who was away from their residence, received a security alarm notification and observed an unknown male on their property through surveillance cameras.

Responding officers conducted a search of the property and discovered damage to a rear sliding-glass door. Officers determined the suspect had been unable to gain entry. Surveillance footage captured the suspect in the rear portion of the property, and officers documented the damage and completed an initial burglary report.

During the following days, the homeowner continued to spot the same individual repeatedly entering the property through his surveillance cameras. As North Hollywood detectives continued their investigation, they discovered that the suspect accessed a separate structure on the property and taken property belonging to the homeowner.

On August 10, officers were dispatched to the home after a male was seen in the backyard. When officers arrived, they located the suspect on the premises and took him into custody without incident. The homeowner and a property representative identified the detained individual as the same person observed on surveillance footage during the prior incidents.

The suspect was identified as Gavin Gregory Gist, 35, of Los Angeles. Gist was arrested and booked at Van Nuys Jail for 459(a) PC – Felony Burglary under booking No. 7296457.

North Hollywood Area detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incidents and are working to determine whether Gist may be connected to any additional crimes.
