UNITED STATES—For the first time, in a very long time, the Fourth of July holiday falls on a weekend, a Saturday to be exact. This has placed a lot of people already on vacation and the holiday is nowhere close. I kind of hate it because it places people in this lazy mode. Something a lot of people don’t know is that if a federal holiday falls on a Saturday, the actual holiday is celebrated the day before.

That is right all federal, state and government entities, including banks and mail will be closed or not operational on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. If the holiday had fallen on Sunday, then Monday would also be celebrated as a holiday. Yes, you may as well start thinking most people are going to kick off their holiday week starting Wednesday or Thursday. It’s hot in most parts of the country, so people are going to want to enjoy it hence plans for the week.

America is turning 250 years old, and gosh, have I not heard the end of it. It seems like that is all everyone and I mean everyone is talking about. Is it annoying? Not really, but it feels slightly gimmicky because it is endless. With that said, get ready for that cookout, which seems to be a staple for most Fourth of July holidays. I will admit I haven’t had much BBQ this year, and when I do, it tends to transpire around the 4th of July.

There is just one slight problem: I have to work the holiday. So, by the time I get off work, if we’re being honest, I don’t even know if I want to deal with family or friends. Yes, a grilled burger, hot dog, potato salad, coleslaw, ribs, chicken or steak sound great, I think I’m more looking for brisket out of all the potential options. Why? I haven’t had brisket in like forever, and not everyone can do it right. My brother can, and I might be able to get him to do it, if I pay him a few dollars in the process.

The fireworks is a great element for celebrating where the kids are treated to something unique and exciting. I remember as kids we loved fireworks, and we used to light them all the time, things are much different today because the dangers are more potent and the risk of fires are greater.

If you have a pool that is a great way to cool down during your cookout or celebration, or perhaps you visit a waterpark to enjoy the cool water to escape from the heat and the humidity. Perhaps, you’re like me, you want to visit the fair. I say it all the time, there is nothing quite like visiting a state fair to get those carnival treats like corn dogs, cotton candy, funnel cakes, and almost anything deep fried or something you don’t eat all the time.

For those with big bucks in their account, you might be visiting the nation’s capital to take part in America’s Fair and all those great festivities that are available to the public and its free if I’m not mistaken.
